Trump’s 77th week brought a high-profile death, renewed strikes with Iran, immigration developments, and a bipartisan housing bill. This comes as Sen. Lindsey Graham died Saturday night from a “brief and sudden illness,” raising implications as the midterm elections approach. At the same time, Trump relaunched strikes against Iran as he declared the ceasefire to be “over.”
As anti-immigrant sentiment continues, backlash is rising after Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a 52-year-old man, was shot and killed by ICE in Houston, raising implications as the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said he was not the intended target. Meanwhile, following a previous report from The Introspective detailing Trump refusing to sign a bipartisan housing bill, the bill later became law without his signature.
Lindsey Graham and Iran
Sen. Lindsey Graham died Saturday night from a “brief and sudden illness,” raising implications as the midterm elections approach.
“On the evening of Saturday, July 11, U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham passed away from a brief and sudden illness,” wrote his office in a Facebook post.
“Senator Graham’s family appreciates prayers at this time and asks for privacy during this incredibly difficult period.”
In an X post, Taylor Reidy, Graham’s communications director, said the cause of death was aortic dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease, with an aortic dissection being when blood leaks through a tear in the aorta, the body’s main artery.
“The preliminary examination findings were: Aortic Dissection due to Arteriosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease,” she wrote, based on preliminary findings from the Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia.
“The death certificate will be PENDING until all the toxicological and microscopic testing are finalized and at that point the death certificate will be updated to reflect the cause of death and appropriately classify the manner of death.”
In a Truth Social post, Trump called Graham “one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known.”
“He was always working, and was a true American Patriot. Lindsey will be greatly missed,” he wrote.
This comes as the late senator recently returned from Ukraine, raising implications as the midterm elections approach.
At the same time, Trump relaunched strikes against Iran as he declared the ceasefire to be “over,” raising implications as Iranian parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf warned the U.S. to maintain the ceasefire or “pay the price.”
“The era of one-sided deals is OVER,” Qalibaf wrote on X.
“We told you: keep your word or pay the price. Reality is knocking.”
The U.S. previously launched strikes in the Strait of Hormuz after Iran allegedly “attacked” a ship from Cyprus, according to U.S. Central Command.
Immigration and Housing Bill
As anti-immigrant sentiment continues, backlash is rising after Lorenzo Salgado Araujo was shot and killed by ICE agents in Houston while he was driving to work, raising implications as the agents were not wearing body cameras.
“On July 7, 2026, at approximately 6:50 a.m. CT, ICE law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop as part of a targeted enforcement operation to arrest an illegal alien,” wrote DHS on X.
“The driver of the vehicle, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo—an illegal alien from Mexico—attempted to evade arrest. From information we are receiving, he rammed an ICE law enforcement vehicle, refused to follow multiple verbal commands, and weaponized his vehicle in an attempt to run over an ICE law enforcement officer, resulting in our officer firing his weapon in self-defense,” the post continued, despite DHS later saying Salgado Araujo was not the intended target.
“The driver was struck, and emergency services were immediately contacted. The driver was transported to the hospital where he passed away from his injuries.”
Local officials later told CNN that they were not being updated by federal officials, including key evidence being withheld.
“Sadly, what we’re getting on the local side is updates via X and Twitter, so that’s not the best practice,” said Harris County District Attorney Sean Teare.
“I remain hopeful that HSI and ICE will collaborate and will at least share some critical pieces of evidence with us.”
This comes following previous reports from The Introspective detailing Keith Porter, Renee Good, and Alex Pretti, all U.S. citizens, being shot and killed by ICE agents.
